We hope that everyone’s 2015 is off to a fabulous start! At The Baby Box Co., one of our most exciting jobs is working with organizations to bring Baby Boxes to new mothers free of charge in their area. The groups that arrange funds and distribution for this special maternity package in their community actively participate in reducing infant mortality. Baby Box programs have also been shown to facilitate an increase in maternal healthcare awareness and clinic program usage among participants.
Today we’d like to introduce you to a community that launched a Baby Box program at the end of 2014 and is reaping the benefits! The Native Village of Eyak is a federally recognized self-governing Tribe that provides governmental services within the Tribe's customary and traditional use area: Prince William Sound, the Copper River, and the Gulf of Alaska. The organization of the Native Village of Eyak is a team based flat organization style. Council and member involvement in decision-making is strongly encouraged and facilitated by monthly meetings and frequent community gatherings.
Linda Brown, Community Wellness Coordinator for The Native Village of Eyak, heads the Tribe’s Baby Box program. She shared these wonderful pictures of new moms receiving their Baby Box maternity packages and will continue to update us throughout 2015!
