3 Quick & Easy Ways To Exercise With Your Baby

Your pregnancy exercise routine should be a little different from you exercise with your baby.  As a new mom, your days are bound to be busy. Between naps, feedings and getting to know your newborn, it’s hard to imagine having time to breathe—let alone having the time to exercise. But, staying active can give you a boost of much-needed energy during the first few months, and you and your baby can enjoy bonding time while you’re working out.

Before you start:

  1. Talk to your doctor first. Once you have the “all clear” sign, feel free to engage in exercise.
  2. Make sure that your baby is old enough to hold their head up on their own. You will be lifting them up!

How To Do An Overhead Press (With Your Baby!)

What it helps tone & strengthen:

  • Shoulders and Arms

How to do it:

  • Sit with your legs crossed, back straight
  • Hold your baby securely under their arms
  • Lift them up (smile at them!) and bring them down slowly
  • Repeat for 20 reps. Rest & repeat.

How To Do A Bench Press (With Your Baby!)

What it helps tone & strengthen:

  • Shoulders, Arms and Core

How to do it:

  • Lie face-up on the floor with your knees bent.
  • Hold your baby securely under their arms.
  • Lower your little to your chest and then fully extend and raise your arms.
  • Do 10 to 15 reps. Repeat 3 times or as many as you can handle!

How to Do Walking Lunges (With Your Baby!)

What it helps tone & strengthen:

  • Quadriceps, Hamstrings and Glutes

How to do it:

  • Hold your baby to your chest (or wear a baby sling!)
  • Walk slowly forward, bending your front leg so it forms a 90 degree angle.  
  • Do not over step, your knee should not pass your ankle.
  • Walk around the house or up and down your hallway—do as many as you can!
