We are dedicated to providing babies with a safe sleeping environment!

How long will the baby be able to use the Baby Box?

It depends on how quickly your baby grows. In first world countries a majority of parents report use of their Baby Box as a primary sleep space for their child until approximately 5-6 months of age. In many of the developing countries where we distribute, infants receiving our Baby Boxes are malnourished and living in less-than-ideal conditions; these factors can contribute to slower development. We have found that children being raised in these more vulnerable communities tend to use their Baby Box until approximately 8 months of age and, in extreme cases, even up to a year. Our recommendation is for babies to cease using their Baby Box as a primary sleep space once they can pull themselves up independently. A baby who can roll, however, is perfectly safe inside his or her Baby Box, and the box will not tip over as long as it is on a sturdy surface.

How do most parents use the Baby Box?

Most parents use their Baby Box as a safe spot for baby to sleep at night. These parents generally keep their Baby Box right next to their bed.

Other parents use the Baby Box as a place for baby to relax or nap during the day; they often keep the Baby Box in the kitchen or living room and use it while they are in that room. Baby can rest safely while mom and dad are busy cooking, folding laundry, taking care of other kids, and so on. Once baby is too big for the Baby Box, it can be re-purposed as a storage box for toys, as a keepsake chest, or as a fun educational upcycling project!

How do you choose the products that you include in your Baby Boxes?

We are obsessed with finding nothing but the very best baby products! We've spent countless hours poring through all the research and vetting hundreds of products, so we know exactly what babies love and need the most. In addition to our own experience with children, we always confer with the medical professionals on our Board of Advisors before including a product and are also constantly asking parents for feedback and suggestions. If you’re a parent with something to say, we’d love to hear your thoughts! Please email us at support@thebabyboxco.com.

Are there any special warnings for the Baby Box?

The Baby Box Co. required warnings are large type and clear on the exterior of every box. We also ask that you exercise common sense caution. This includes keeping the Baby Box away from open flame (though tests do show that it has a very safe, slow burn rate, which is in fact much lower than many other comparable sleeping spaces for infants). You should also not let the Baby Box get excessively wet. While you can easily wipe off spit-up, drool, or spilled milk, the Baby Box should not be left out in the rain or placed in the bath. You should also never use the lid while baby is inside. Although there are vents on the side of the boxes that allow for air circulation, the lid is strictly intended for storage purposes alone. In addition, please do not transport the Baby Box while the baby is inside as this presents a tripping/falling hazard. Always keep the Baby Box on the floor or on a sturdy, wide surface such as a coffee table.

What safety standard do Baby Boxes meet?

Our Baby Boxes meet or exceed all applicable tenets of the CPSC, Health Canada and EN standards.

What are the care instructions for the sheets?

Wash your 100% cotton fitted sheets in warm (not hot) water, and then tumble dry on low. Do not dry clean, and if you iron the sheets, do not let the iron's temperature exceed 110℃.

Why did my Baby Box come without a lid?

The Baby Box Co. is always looking for ways to better accommodate our families. We are no longer producing the lids to the boxes being distributed for free through the Baby Box University program as feedback has been that the lids are not used by the majority of our families. This new approach also cuts down the costs of the box manufacturing, which enables us to produce more boxes and serve even more families. We do offer lids for purchase through our online store for parents who wish to ultimately use their Baby Box for keepsake storage.

How are Baby Boxes different than Pack n' Plays?

Baby Boxes are economically scalable, thereby allowing non-profits, hospitals, governments, and other institutions to reach all of the expecting and new parents in their care without increasing their program budgets. An extended reach = more lives saved and that is a huge factor in the increasing rise of Baby Boxes’ popularity.

In terms of Pack n’ Plays, groups have cited the following:

(1) The company that manufactures Pack 'n Plays affirms that Pack 'n Plays are not to be utilized for overnight sleeping when parents call in with product safety concerns. They are intended only for daytime play or short naps under adult supervision.

(2) Pack 'n Plays are difficult to set up, and they can in fact be dangerous if they have not been set up correctly. Baby Boxes are distributed to new parents pre-assembled, so this is not a concern for institutions with a Baby Box program as opposed to a Pack n’ Play program.

(3) Pack 'n Plays are a hassle to transport, which is especially an issue for itinerant families that frequently move from place to place. The Pack 'n Play has to be disassembled and then re-assembled each time it is moved. If pieces are lost in transit,  improper reassembly poses a risk of collapse. When a family with a Baby Box is moving from one location to another, they simply fill it with baby's items, using it as a convenient caddy.

(4) Pack 'n Plays take up a large amount of space. Many of the families who receive our Baby Boxes through outreach programs live in small apartments or shared spaces, so the Pack 'n Play takes up far too much room to be practical. The Baby Box is nice and compact, just the right size to hold a baby without taking up unnecessary extra space.

(5) Pack 'n Plays are not sustainable. Once Baby Boxes have been outgrown, on the other hand, they are re-purposed as storage or toy boxes, and they can even be recycled at the end of their life span, making them the more sustainable choice. For this reason, our company was nominated for Natural Child World's Eco Excellence Awards.

In addition, please note the following:

Our Baby Boxes meet or exceed all applicable tenets of the CPSC, Health Canada and EN standards.

Our Baby Box ventilation has been verified as safe by an independent testing facility.

Our Baby Boxes have a comparatively slow burn rate in fire tests opposite alternative infant sleep spaces.

Our Baby Boxes are tested and certified to hold up to 52 lbs.

Our Baby Boxes include Baby Box University membership, which supports parents with access to an online education platform featuring medical expert interviews, brain development activities and a Safe Sleep e-book available in English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese and Hindi.

Our company serves millions of parents via Baby Box direct sales and community programs. We have an Advisory Board with sound experience, we actively facilitate infant safety research, and outreach is a cornerstone of our business model.

We love what we do and we look forward to collaborations which enable us to distribution life saving Baby Boxes and supportive education resources to as many families in need as possible!
